Getting Ready
The week before Christmas is always fun, even if I do have to keep reminding myself of that!
I’ve built the LEGO Christmas tree and my Hero has completed the small Christmas train to go round it. It wasn’t the most satisfying build and I’ve reached the conclusion that I prefer playing with LEGO as we did in Aalborg, where I simply sat in a pit of bricks and did my own thing. I’m not so interested in the complex assembly of pieces that was involved here.
Clever, yes. Cute too, especially the little room sets that are hidden inside the branches. But the fragile structure makes it hard to “play” with and I think it’s going to be quite a few years before small hands are going to enjoy it.
The end result is dark and we wish we’d splashed out on the light kit which might have brought it to life a little more.
Our friends brought light to our usual Feuerzangebowle evening with their lively conversation and sweet sparkle.
The Christmas Concert in Cheltenham was lovely too. Another occasion to share with friends.
There’s always the usual appointments to keep - the hairdressers, now in a new location for me.
And each of our cars needed servicing meaning that once again, we asked ourselves how we managed to get into this awfully bad timing for an annual appointment?
Because, even though it’s the week before Christmas, we try to keep some of our routines going. I still go for my early morning swim, even though it’s dark when I set off and still dark when I go home again.
At least the weather has been mild and we’ve had no icy roads so far this winter. Plenty of rain, however.
Lunch with friends was a fun occasion in a newly rebranded hotel nearby. I found their arrangement of the gallery wall rather curious.
I took a photo in a similar situation on Saturday, when we were out for lunch with our family. In the New Year, I’ll start working with a new group of “Staging and Interpretation” judges and examples of “shelfies” like this will make for good discussion. (Did you know there was such a thing?!)
Meanwhile, someone else has been to the hairdresser
and I don’t think Grandma is the only one to hope his curls grow back quickly!
Strangely however, there’s no usual Christmas tree here and the contents of our fridge are being very carefully managed. We’re about to buzz off on an adventure and “getting ready” around here involves packing bags rather bigger than stockings.
Wishing you the best for Christmas 2025, wherever you may be!
