Still

Still

I think I’ve posted the inside of a Tiptree jam pot previously, but the sentiment holds strong. I’m currently on a bit of a pro-Tiptree campaign as I notice the French Bonne Maman brand quietly taking over every department in my local Waitrose, edging out the traditional British favourites like this.

Anyway…

I’m pleased to say we’ve slept in our own beds for well over a week now! It’s been a good time to be still, to reflect and to remember and we were glad to be home during a sad time in our country’s history. We watched the TV throughout, felt sorry that we didn’t join the queue but have shared memories and felt thankful.

Unfortunately a local war memorial and place of remembrance is somewhat overshadowed by the need for an enormous road sign, but nevertheless, it was good to see flowers laid there in the same way as they were laid in similar places throughout the country.

It’s been a time for comfort food such as apricot crumble, with custard (of course), poured from the jug we bought in Görlitz on one of our travels for this very purpose.

Quiet days are good for knitting and the scarf yarn/pattern I bought in Skagen is coming along nicely thanks to the help of my sweet Danish friend Marianne, who had a fair bit of detective work to do in interpreting the pattern for me.

Knitting friends might like to note the needles, which I bought in Kristiansund, Norway thinking (crazily!) that I might get going on the scarf almost right away. They are KnitPro Smartstix and though clever, I’m not sure I like the highly reflective surface, especially when the sun is shining. Of course, there’s no real measuring to be done on the scarf either, which makes one of the selling points of these needles totally redundant as well.

Whilst I was knitting, the Titanic was coming along nicely with the second box now complete.

Just one bag to go and the last third of the project. that seems to include some moving parts in the engine room however, so perhaps progress will be a little slower!

I was glad to be around for my book group meeting the other day too, having missed a couple recently. Bridget’s choice for this month was Little Fires Everywhere, which everyone seems to have enjoyed and found quite thought provoking - me too. One thing which was interesting was coming across it as a TV series on Amazon Prime, the first of which I watched last evening. Let’s just say I was glad I read the book first!

There was time to be made up with swimming too, which meant I swam three days running this week. Good grief! Isn’t it funny how our conscience works, for after all, no one checks but me.

It was time to restock the fridge as well though getting back into the shopping routine is a little harder. After all, the seasons have rolled on a bit in the meantime.

Finally, one thing to celebrate yesterday and another reason for taking it a bit easy today. We went for our autumn CV booster jabs. Not only that, but whilst there, we were asked if we’d like ‘flu jabs too - well, yes please! We had already made arrangements to go for those on Monday morning, but this was easier. Now, I can go for my swim and then go straight to my WI Block Printing class on Monday morning without fear of missing the first half hour. We’ll sit down for a bring and share lunch, so my task for Sunday is to make my contribution.

No surprises there.
