Still silly

Still silly

I’ve written here before about how silly my Hero and I are when it comes to Tunnocks Tea Cakes. They’re a long term family favourite and ever since we saw the tiger in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition a few years ago, they’ve acquired a more iconic status around here somehow.

So when I came across a print of this fine gentleman in an online art collection, I just knew that I had to get it for my Hero’s recent birthday. “Tunnock the Terrible” is one of Little Fish’s collection of distinctive works and now suitably framed, it brings a smile to our faces as we catch sight of him just by the kitchen door.

I wasn’t the only one to think along these lines when choosing a gift for the birthday boy. His dear friend Paul knows him well and had, I think, cleared the supermarket shelf of teacakes, supplying him with an elegant sufficiency (sorry!) of them!

Meanwhile, I had been browsing for other ideas - Bettine wanted me to do her birthday shopping as well, and whilst doing that I came across Gillian Kyle’s web shop from where the photo above is taken. There, amongst all the fun Tunnocks themed gifts and memorabilia was a tea towel celebrating the Frozen Tunnocks Tea Cake, with a link to the story too.

Yes, of course we tried it!

Firstly, it gets smashed gently on the granite worktop. I was fearful that the marshmallow would stick to the wrapper and it would be impossible to eat. But no, it all stays neatly together and the end result is delicious, especially on those warm days when anything chocolate-y would be just too messy.

So there, alongside Clive’s Mother (our spare sourdough starter) and the ice cubes, you’ll now find a couple or more frozen Tunnocks Tea Cakes.

Yes, we’ve really lost the plot here.
