Here we are.

Here we are.

In one of our favourite places.

We feel very much at home in Bavaria.

Though sometimes, it takes a little getting used to. Like picking up the rental car at the airport and joining the autobahn to be alerted to a 240km/h speed limit. In a Chinese built MG? I think we won’t need to worry about that. We let the BMWs and the Mercedes zoom on by.

But we are soon thinking how easy it would be to live here.

Where the shop window filled with takeaway Haxen (roast pork knuckle) prompts us to think “why can’t we do this at home?” (and resolve to give it a try!)

Where a spinner filled with old postcards makes us smile.

Even though we only started coming here in the 1970s.

My apologies that I can’t seem to work out how to orientate the photo of the low level “bench” that runs along the side of this street, absolutely covered 100% in stickers applied with such precision.

We said Hello to Julia, a relatively recent personality in these parts

but one who receives quite a lot of attention.

Under the blue skies, the city was looking at its best.

We recalled the snow which fell on our last visit. Here we were this time, seeking what little shade there was to stay cool.

But we needed to avoid dehydration, didn’t we?

Thankfully, that’s easy to do here!

We wandered around the Viktualienmarkt, appreciating the same stalls as we usually do, making our way to a favourite spot to make a purchase or two.

We stopped by the Liesl Karlstadt fountain and enjoyed rinsing our hands in the cold water.

As we headed back I noticed we were at the foot of the Maypole

…celebrating the Reinheitsgebot, the purity conditions to which all German beer must be made.

Thinking that it might be a good idea to do a little further sampling, we made our way back out of the market in search of a bite to eat.

Did I say how much we love it here?

I smiled at Oliver, our Grand-dog’s Bavarian cousin here!

We’d already seen the menu on our way into the market and so it was a no brainer to find a shady outdoor table on the way back.

The white asparagus, hollandaise sauce and new potatoes tasted delicious and I couldn’t resisit a small schnitzel to accompany it. Yum!

We shared a Kaiserschmarrn, another family favourite.

We made sure we cleaned our plate too…”Sonst regnet es Morgen” as Irmgard would have said.

So many happy memories 🥰 So happy to be here.
