Thursday morning, 6am
Whilst I am usually awake when my alarm goes off, this morning was an exception. Both my Hero and I were still comfortably in the Land of Nod when, at 5.40am we had a rude awakening. I swim on a Thursday morning and then go straight to the supermarket to do our weekly shop. Time to get up then, Gill.
Everything was ready for me to simply pick up on my way out, so fifteen minutes later I was jumping out of my car to open the gate, noticing as I did, the beautiful sky out towards the east. We put our clocks forward last weekend and whilst I have very much missed the light mornings we’d become used to in the last couple of weeks, this reminder that there’s more to come made up for it.
And there was another bonus this morning.
A blackbird was singing. It’s a delight to hear them at this time of the year, though when they start calling to one another in a dawn chorus at 4am, I might think differently!
As I turned the corner into our lane, there was the full “pink” moon shining brightly there in front of me. Oh, if only I had turned to look the other way when taking that photo of the sky just now! Sadly, even at 6am in the morning, it would be foolhardy to stop in the middle of the lane to take a photo and my sensible brain thankfully stopped me from doing that. Perhaps I can pull over in a few minutes, where it’s safe to do so?
The next part of my route took me through trees however, and then I was driving in the wrong direction, with my back to the moon. Too bad. As I drove, I thought of the crew of the Artemis rocket, heading up there right now, going further than anyone has ever been from the Earth. At the top of the hill, however, there’s a parking spot, so I stopped the car and took a quick photo.
Hmmm. I didn’t do very well, really! Never mind. The picture in my mind is, of course, much clearer than that 🤣
I jumped back in the car and headed towards the pool, fifteen minutes away. By the time I got there it was almost daylight and I joined the bunch of regular swimmers and gym users waiting for the doors to open at 6.30am. As we waited, our favourite fellow was there to entertain us.
An hour later, I’d done my swim. Since my recent health issues, I’m still working towards my old standard mile, but managed three quarters before going over the road to the supermarket and doing the shop. By 8.30am I was in town at the greengrocers where the bowls of spring bulbs and huge bunches of tulips were too lovely to resist.
I was home again before 9am with bags of shopping, armfuls of flowers and a small clutch of Easter eggs. Only when putting the tulips into water did I notice that every single stem has at least two flowers, some three. Each one is double too, which should make for a beautiful vase over the next few days.
I think that we’ve got off to a cracking start to the Easter weekend!
