An Elegant Sufficiency

We made it

I’m relieved to say that, after a day filled with a series of processes, beginning with checking out of the hotel and getting to the port, we made it on board. Travelling these days is really not for the faint of heart. I’d like to think we are organised, robust and confident, but to be honest, as can be gathered from my last posts, the current situation makes all kinds of demands on us all.

Having arrived at the port, we showed our vaccination certificates, our recent CV PCR test results and our passports. We signed to confirm that they were ours and were allowed to the next stage of the process. Here, further vaccination checks were made, we confirmed the dates and brand names of our vaccines and had a credit card registered before our room key was assigned. Once boarding began, we made our way on board the Navigator (which we last saw in Cape Town!) and put our hand luggage in our suite. No sign of our other luggage yet.

Lunch was fun. Not only did we see one or two familiar faces amongst the crew, including a couple of real favourites, we enjoyed a bite to eat before finally deciding that it was time to go and find the answer to the main question.

Was our luggage there? It was!!

Strangely, rather than feel relieved and relaxed, I had an awful headache and felt more stressed than ever, so having unpacked, I settled down for a nap after which I felt better. The last two days had taken their toll it seemed.

At 7pm there was a rumble and we began to move. We left Copenhagen bound for Skagen, where we will be tomorrow. This evening, we dined with a delightful couple from Ontario. The conversation was good, the food delicious and the service as efficient as could be. We might have sampled a couple of bottles of Chateauneuf du Pape along the way.

Time to relax.
