An Elegant Sufficiency

Edges

It’s always about the edges when I weave…

I’d set up the warp yesterday afternoon, breaking into my stash of perle cotton and finding it takes a surprising amount of thread to warp even a shortish length.

I found a comfy place in the kitchen, tied myself and the warp to a worktop and fiddled around until my chair was the right distance to achieve a decent tension. I began to weave following Susan’s clear instructions. In no time at all, a fairly regular pattern appeared. This was a simple design, instantly memorable and perfect for a first go, especially for me, who wants to do everything perfectly first time, preferably in the next five minutes.

The pattern is simple but quite effective.

The back is quite pretty too.

Not too bad for an hours “work”, considering it was from a standing start. Just don’t look too closely at the edges.

And please, don’t ring the doorbell or telephone me when I’m tied to the kitchen worktop.
