No hiding

No hiding

We knew from the first sentence he spoke. “I’m standing in for the one and only Fi Glover”

We were listening to Radio 4 this lunchtime as we savoured the last bites of our Sunday lunch: slow roast lamb shoulder followed by blackcurrant sponge, accompanied by a glass of our favourite red wine. We looked at one another and smiled as my Hero reached for the phone in his pocket and opened the BBC Sounds app to check.

The Listening Project, presented by Kofi Smiles, as he said “standing in for the one and only Fi Glover” It was that word “only”, followed by “toes” and “knows” and another word or two in every sentence that caused us to prick up our ears.

There were no clues in the presenter’s name and we’d missed the rest of the intro which would have provided the evidence, but all the same, we just knew. 100% confirmed because as my Hero opened the first link google suggested, yes, Kofi Smiles talks just like me.

There really is no hiding from our heritage - but then, why would we want to do that?
