Bustin' out

Good grief, it's June....

I spent the day with Paulene yesterday, catching the last gasp of the Ravilous exhibition at Compton Verney and as we drove along the Fosse Way, we noted how everything is looking so abundantly green right now.  This morning, in between the heavy showers, I went out for a breath of fresh air in the garden, where the warm, wet weather has encouraged growth in every corner.  As we drive up the hill, the wild garlic aroma is stronger in the damp air and the same seems to be true of these roses.  They're messy and droop all over the place, dropping the petals to create a soggy spot on the path beneath them but I'll forgive them all of that because they smell divine!

Even in the awful mess that should be our lovely pond, a single waterlily is doing its best to struggle on.  There's hope there yet, for Barry the Pond has been and offered his advice and expertise...

I've always loved these small iris which grow in a small puddle fed by the pond pump.  I feared we'd lost them since it's not been working for a while, but thankfully those heavy downpours have kept enough water in there and there's a beautiful purple patch there right now.

The purple clump is right next to a patch of red ???s (I wish I could remember what they are!) and as I stood looking out over the valley, I thought that the purple and red combination was reminiscent of another photograph I took earlier in the day...

I'd had an email to alert me to the arrival of some rather lovely Malabrigo sock yarn, which I forwarded to my hero for him to choose the next couple of pairs.  A package of glorious colour arrived yesterday and I had spent this morning winding it into pairs of evenly sized cakes.  I wholeheartedly recommend The Sock Yarn Shop for a great selection of brands/colours, but also good prices and most importantly, excellent speedy service!

I can't wait to begin knitting colour again - I've currently got black yarn on the needles, which is only good for knitting in sunshine.  Bring it on!
